Nov 20, 2014
CHARLOTTE, N.C., November 20, 2014 – Volunteers from UTC Aerospace Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX), gave hands-on lessons on flight dynamics to local girls as a key sponsor of the annual Girls & Science event at the Minnesota Science Museum on November 15, 2014. The sponsorship marked the company’s fifth consecutive year of participation in the day-long event that promotes science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) careers to inspire girls to pursue science-related education.
During the event, engineers from the company’s Burnsville, Minnesota-based Sensors and Integrated Systems business conducted hands-on educational activities to teach participants the basic concepts of aerodynamics. Attendees learned about forces that sustain flight, as well as the company’s products that enable flight.
“The next generation of scientists and engineers are exploring their curiosity in things like the dynamics of flight, and this event allows girls to picture themselves as a future scientist, astronaut or engineer,” said Steve Rausch, Air Data, MEMS & Flight Management Systems General Manager, UTC Aerospace Systems. “Sponsoring the Girls & Science event gives UTC Aerospace Systems an opportunity to foster STEM development, and provides our employees with an opportunity to volunteer in the community and have a direct impact on our youth.”
